NPKA Prison Outreach
NPKA, better known as National Prison Kindred Alliance, has a number of facets.
Primarily under the banner of NWAM , we go into various facilities in Oregon an Washington to do religious services, classes and counseling. We also send group participation blots to facilities that are too far away for us to visit on a regular basis.
Some of the facilities we are visiting on a monthly basis are:
- Coffee Creek Correctional Facility in Wilsonville, Oregon
- Oregon State Penitentiary in Salem, Oregon
- Oregon State Correctional Institution in Salem, Oregon
- Stafford Creek Correctional Institution in Aberdeen, Washington (quarterly basis)
When requested, we have also visited:
- Shutters Creek Correctional in North Bend, Oregon
- Snake River Correctional in Ontario, Oregon
- Powder River Correctional in Baker City, Oregon
- Eastern Oregon Correctional in Pendleton, Oregon
- Two Rivers Correctional in Umatilla, Oregon
- Washington State Penitentiary in Walla Walla, Washington
Our dedicated staff of volunteers allows us to continue with our work.
Our primary mission is to advocate for those “behind the wire” to be able to practice our religion freely. This goal is not only for those incarcerated in Oregon and Washington, but nationwide.
“There are NPKA affiliated kindreds in various facilities around the United States.”
Inmate letters of commitment are available to those in need of them. These letters outline what items are needed to practice our beliefs and are addressed to the chaplain’s of the various facilities. These letters facilitate the free practice of Asatru , in facilities, for those who request them.
We are also in constant mail contact via our PO Box, with inmates all over the US. We answer questions, assist as needed, and send literature for study purposes.
Once paroled, inmates are given a “Welcome Letter”. This letter gives them contact information for NWAM. We provide each person who asks, a set of clothes, household goods and sometimes non perishable foods. Items, other than a set of clothes, are given as funds when donations allow.
We continue to support our parolees by personal contact and by phone. There is also a support group run by one of our volunteers for the women who parole out of CCCF. We hope to increase the number of volunteers so that we can create more support groups for all Asatruar who parole.
We accept volunteers, from any state in the US, who are willing to dedicate themselves to assisting incarcerated Asatruar. The requirements are a commitment to our ideals of tolerance and equality. We do not condone hatred or those who espouse it. We also do not have a political agenda and believe our religion, or any religion, and politics should not mingle. If you are interested in assisting please contact us at northernway@centurytel.net for an application.
NPKA puts out a bimonthly publication called the Saga. It is geared toward incarcerated Asatruar and contains information, articles, and entertaining items; as well as, kindred updates, articles, poetry, and artwork done by incarcerated Asatruar. Please contact us regarding subscriptions.
